Appalam Vathal Kuzhambu

2 – fried appalam
1/2 tbsp – tamarind paste
1/2 tbsp – sambar powder
2 cups – water
1 tbsp – bengal gram dal
a pinch of asafoetida
a pinch of turmeric
salt to taste
1 tbsp – oil
Directions
In a pan heat the oil.
Add the mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
Add the bengal gram dal, asafoetida and turmeric powder, stir well.
Break the appalam into small pieces and add to it.
Add the tamarind paste, sambar powder and the water and allow to cook for 5 minutes.
If required add of salt.
